  Quentin Tarantino Quentin Tarantino is a filmmaker, director, screenwriter, actor film critic and producer.  the most obvious way Tarantino uses music is that he goes against the grain a lot of the time by this I mean that he would play a Tupac and James brown mashup in a western movie.  western movie This was a huge risk that he took and it set him apart from the rest of the directors in the world. Tarantino changed the way directors use music. 

  In this blog i'm going to look at shot sizes and when you should use each shot.  Extreme long shot  An extreme long shot is used to establish a location where the scene is taking place.  Long shot  A long shot is a camera shot that shows the entire subject from head to toe and their surroundings. the long shot is also called a wide shot or a full shot it is used to show the relationship between a character and its environment.  Medium long shot  a medium-long shot is most commonly used for group shots, two shots and emblematic shots they are used for this because they provide enough room in the frame to include several characters or visual elements simultaneously. Mid shot  a mid shot is used to emphasise the character and their surroundings by giving them an equal presence on screen. A director uses a mid-shot to clearly show the emotions of the characters while still being informed about what's going on around them.  Medium close up ...

A sound engineer captures all the sound for a location this can be dialogue singing and action that takes place in the location.  The sound engineer is the person on the far left holding the mic he also has a sound desk attached to him. this is so he can mix the sound as he hears it live.  The highest salary for a sound engineer is £45,200 per year.  Is being a sound recordist a good career choice? Sound engineer is a good career choice because it offers a lot of diverse sub-career options. If you are looking for formal education there are various areas in which you can niche down to. You could start as a sound engineer and end up being a foley artist.

 A red herring is something that is meant to distract or mislead the audience so that when the truth is finally revealed it surprises the audience. An example of this is in the recent murder mystery Knifes Out where the identity of the killer is hidden and the audience is often misled until it is revealed in a climactic and dramatic way. A good example of a red herring is in the thriller movie shutter island. red herring Shutter Island In this scene, it gives off the impression that there are two Marshalls going to investigate this mental hospital. At the end of the movie we find out this is not the case and one of them is a patient at the hospital and his partner is his doctor this shocks the audience as they would not have expected this twist in the movie. 

Most sound in movies is after the movie in a studio by a foley artist What is a foley artist? A foley artist is someone that uses a range of props to record the everyday sounds that we hear in films that the microphone would not pick up on set. For example, this could be a door opening a horse walking on sand.  They tell stories through sound  how do they do it? They have a studio with loads of props and spend hours finding sounds out of these props. here is a clip of a foley artist in a studio. Often very common sounds are made in obscure ways. The film a Quiet Place makes use of foley sounds, the echolocation sound that the aliens make was made using snapping celery.  foley artist

click me! When filming it is important to make sure that all the cast and crew are perfectly safe. This includes a risk assessment which must be done for each location a shoot takes place. In this blog, I explain good safety when filming and why it is important. 

  We were given the task of making a thriller scene so we could practice our skills.  Here we can see a low-angle shot of the killer this is to make him seem big and shows that he has the power in the scene as he is stalking his victim.  Here you can see the light in the bottom left of the image this was our attempt at trying to create a chiaroscuro effect it took a couple of attempts but came out well in the final piece.
